For me in the garden, winter is always busy. I usually grow and plant many different things as Brisbane’s sub tropical climate is perfect for many herbs and veggies that would not be able to be grown in cooler climates. I’m very lucky to be living in such a beautiful part of the world.

I harvested all of what was left of my carrots, kohlrabi and beetroot just last week. I have planted new seeds of carrots, spinach, radish and Mizuna as well as some snow pea seedlings. I am skeptical that my snow pea seedlings will not go well as it is already starting to warm up. It’s all about trial and error. We have also harvested a tonne of cherry tomatoes. I will be pulling the remainder up this weekend so the fruit fly doesn’t have anything to eat. Below is just one small batch that we have had this season.

I have also planted some bush basil in 2 of my raised garden beds. I’ve trimmed cherry trees, re-mulched around cherry, orange, lemon and lime trees. Fixed my compost bin so we now do not have a family of rats dining each night (biggest win).

I haven’t been gardening for very long, I’ve had many fails, but I‘ve learnt so much and had many successes along the way so far. My dream is to be as sustainable and carbon neutral as possible.
